Raised in a family with a deep commitment to Americans living with disabilities, Joe understands that we cannot approach disability rights as an independent silo. He believes it must be a critical consideration in every policy decision, from education to health care to criminal justice, and is deeply committed to ensuring protection, autonomy, and dignity for people living with disabilities. He will advocate alongside people with disabilities against discrimination in employment, housing, education, and health care, and he will empower and highlight their voices across the Commonwealth.
Joe is committed to ensuring the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act are fulfilled in all corners of the Commonwealth and the country, including equal opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self sufficiency. He is also committed to fully funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, to guarantee that all students with disabilities have access to high-quality public education.
Joe has been a tireless advocate to expand Medicaid, which provides critical health care coverage for people with disabilities. He also supports the expansion of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to help build economic security for people living with disabilities. Joe recognizes that there are significant challenges in the affordability of quality long-term care, in both community- and facility-based settings. He supports Medicare for All, which would expand Medicare to include long-term services and support. He is also committed to thinking innovatively about the recruitment and retention of our direct care workforce to ensure all people living with disabilities have the quality care in the setting of their choice.
Joe will fight for adequate funding for early childhood intervention, residential programs, community programs, and work programs, as well as funding to support families to ensure that all people living with disabilities have equal opportunity. He believes we must do more to remove barriers to equal rights for people living with disabilities, and is committed to lifting up the voices of advocates fighting to expand equitable access to public transit, accessible and affordable housing, employment, the ballot box, quality education, and other critical services.
