Cite Kennedy’s unwavering support for immigrant families and Latinx Americans

Watertown, MA –– Today, several more members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) endorsed Congressman Joe Kennedy III for U.S. Senate. Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16), Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA-35), Congressman Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) and Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) all cited Kennedy’s fierce, unwavering commitment to immigrants and their families, dedication to human rights, and his forward-thinking vision to bring comprehensive reform to our immigration system. Escobar and Espaillat serve as vice-chairs of the CHC.

“Joe Kennedy is an ally on immigration reform and justice for all,” said Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16). “He has stood with me and with the Latinx community across the country on key immigration votes, and in our fight against the dehumanization of immigrant families. I know that his moral leadership will help lead us out of this dark period in American history. I look forward to working with him as the next U.S. Senator from Massachusetts.”

“Joe shows up in Massachusetts and he shows up across the country when it counts. The last thing this country needs is elected officials who are never on the ground and don’t hear from those closest to the problem,” said Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA-35). “We need Senators who are going to fight for human rights and stand up against injustices–and make it perfectly clear whose side they are on in this fight. Joe Kennedy will be that Senator.”

“Joe Kennedy thinks big. Yes, he wants immigration reform but he knows that we need to do more than introduce legislation to get there,” said Congressman Ruben Gallego (AZ-7). “He understands that it’s not enough to just vote the right way, but take on the barriers that prevent us from making these reforms and passing the big, progressive legislation. It’s that kind of thinking we need to finally get immigration reform over the finish line in Washington.”

“As a proud member of the Dominican community, I formed the Friends of the Dominican Republic Caucus and Joe Kennedy is a great addition to the group,” said Congressman Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). “I stand with Joe Kennedy who stands with our immigrant families at the border and in our cities. He never wavers in his support even when things get tough, and that’s the dependable, fearless fighter we need in the U.S. Senate. At the end of the day, it’s Joe Kennedy the people of Massachusetts and immigrant families want by their side.”

The endorsement comes on the heels of a press conference held last week in which their colleagues in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus ––  Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51), Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (CA-38), Congressman Filemon Vela (TX-34), and Congressman Pete Aguilar (CA-31) –– slammed Senator Ed Markey’s vote for the notorious immigration “bed quota.” Congressman Kennedy, as well as the rest of the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation, voted against it.

Kennedy has also been endorsed by CHC Chairman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), as well as Congressman Vargas, Congresswoman Sánchez, Congressman Vela, Congressman Aguilar, Congressman Raúl Grijalva (AZ-3) and Congressman Gil Cisneros (CA-39).
